Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa of the Indian cricket team has expressed his desire to bat as an opener for the Chennai Super Kings in this season of the Indian Premier League.
Let us tell you that for the year 2021 auction, the team of Rajasthan Royals released Robin Uthappa from their team.
After being released by the Rajasthan Royals, the team of Chennai Super Kings added him to them. If we talk about the last two IPL seasons, Robin Uthappa has not performed anything well.
Uthappa was playing a batting role as a batsman in the middle order for the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals team. But here he failed to do anything special during his batting.
In the 2019 Indian Premier League, Robin Uthappa had scored only 282 runs in 12 matches. The same Uthappa, despite batting a total of 12 matches in the year 2020, was able to make only 196.
The same now Chennai Super Kings batsman Robin Uthappa would like to prove himself a great player during his batting this season.
This is the reason why he wants to play this responsibility in the team as an opener for Chennai. In an interview to Times of India, Robin Uthappa said that he could not do well in the last two IPL seasons.
But if he had been given the role of an opener instead of a middle-order batsman, he could have performed quite well.
Uthappa further said that I absolutely want to bat as an opener. I feel much better at this place. Giving my team a good start and the match is as good a experience for the team and I feel good at the opening.
In the last few years, some people fed me in a place where I was not comfortable. And this is the reason why I could not perform well enough. Whenever I have started batting, I have done well.
Batting at number-3, Uthappa has scored 1425 runs while Uthappa has scored 2057 runs as an opener. The same Robin Uthappa’s batting average at No. 4 and 5 is quite poor.
