This is the third time that blood samples have been sent to test the effectiveness of the vaccine for producing antibodies in children. ‘Covaxin’ has been tested on 90 children in Karnataka.

The trial will take 210 days to complete, but in the present circumstances, the release of the Coronavirus vaccine for children cannot wait for five-six months.

The children’s Coronavirus vaccine will be approved in three phases. The approval will be granted for children above 12 years of age first, then for children aged between six and 12 years, and thereafter for children aged two to six years.

Sources said that during the trial, only 10-12 children felt mild fever and pain on the day of vaccination, but they recovered in a day or two. They did not find any complications related to the vaccine.

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the emergency use of Zydus Cadila’s three-dose anti-coronavirus Xycov-D vaccine.

It will be used from 12-year-olds to adults as well. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, said on Friday that with the approval for emergency use, it will be the first vaccine that will be administered to children and adolescents aged 12-18 years.

The vaccine is administered so far in the country is for people above 18 years of age. Apart from this, all these are two-dose vaccines, while Zycov-D is a three-dose vaccine.

DBT said that this is the world’s first DNA-based vaccine. All the Coronavirus vaccines available so far are m-RNA based. The plasmid produces the DNA-based Zycov-D spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and confers strong immunity.
