ISL-7: Mumbai City FC beat Odisha FC 6-1 in their 19th match of the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) played at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Wednesday.
Thanks to Bipin Singh’s brilliant hat-trick and Bartholomew Ogbeche two goals. With this victory, Mumbai has reduced the number of points between them and table topper ATK Mohun Bagan FC by 6 to three.
This is Mumbai’s 11th win in 19 matches. He now has 37 points in his account. He has one match in his account right now and if he wins in his next match too.
He will be on par with ATK Mohun Bagan (40 points) as he is on par with ATKMB in terms of goal difference.
This is the biggest win of any team so far this season. On the other hand, Odisha lost 12th in 19 matches.
He already has 9 points in his account and remains at the bottom of the table of 11 teams. The match was decided in the first half itself.
He knew that he needed a win in order to become a table topper again, and with his full power, he managed to secure a win with a 4–1 lead in the first 47 minutes.
The first goal of the match, however, was scored by Odisha through a penalty in the ninth minute. Diego Maurício scored this goal.
Diego Maurício reached the penalty area with a ball from midfield in the eighth minute and was close to scoring a goal but Ahmed Jahouh dropped him foul against him.
The referee gave away the penalty without delay and it was only Mauricio Pochettino himself who made Odisha 1-0 ahead.
After this, Mumbai scored four goals one after the other to make the match unilateral. Her first and equalizer was scored by Bartholomew Ogbeche in the 14th minute.
Bartholomew Ogbeche scored through a header on a freekick taken by Ahmed Jahouh while Bipin Singh scored in the 38th minute to put Mumbai ahead 2–1.
Mumbai’s team did not stop here and scored another goal in the 43rd minute to take a 3-1 lead.
Ogbeche also scored this goal. A minute later Cy Goddard scored another goal to put Mumbai City FC ahead 4–1.
Mumbai also started the second half, just as the first half ended. Bipin scored in the 47th minute to put Mumbai ahead 5–1. Mumbai’s victory was confirmed.
That is why it decided to give a chance to some of its other players. Under this, two changes were made in the 52nd minute and one change in the 53rd minute.
Bipin was close to a hat-trick in the 62nd minute but missed. Cy Goddard gave a pass to Mandar Rao Desai in the left flank and Mandar gave a pass for Bipin to the penalty area.
Singh attempted a goal through the header but his header went wide. Ogbeche, who scored two goals, went off the field in the 79th minute and was replaced by Vikram Pratap Singh.
Mumbai got a penalty in the 83rd minute but Arshdeep Singh saved it but just two minutes later, Bipin scored a goal and also completed his hat-trick and put Mumbai ahead 6–1. Bipin scored his first hat-trick of the season.
