Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has returned to the IPL with a new role. Gambhir, who has twice won the IPL title as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, said goodbye to the IPL after playing a season with the Delhi Capitals. But now he has joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a mentor with the new Lucknow title before 2022.
Delhi MP Gambhir has won the IPL title twice against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). “Thanks to Dr. (Sanjeev) Goenka and the RPSG team for giving me this wonderful opportunity in your team,” Gambhir said in a statement.
Gambhir (40) has played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is for India. He said, ‘I still have the attitude to win matches and the desire to leave the legacy of a winner is still with me 24 hours a day. I will not fight for the dressing room, but for the Uttar Pradesh team.
The name of this team is yet to be decided. The owner, Sanjeev Goenka, welcomed Gambhir to the RPSG family. On Friday, former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower joined the team as head coach.
