Fast Five, the fifth film in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, is seen as a transitional film as it was the film that marked the entry of Dwayne Johnson ‘The Rock’ into the series, and the success of the franchise grew so much that today Is ruling everyone’s hearts.
In this series ‘The Rock’ played the agent Luke Hobbs. Let us know how the series started reaching new heights of success after The Rock’s arrival. Dwayne Johnson is best known as a latecomer for the Fast and Furious franchise, but it is no secret to the film series that he saw much improvement after his joining.
He made his debut as Luke Hobbs, an agent of federal law enforcement, in the 2011 Fast Five. Johnson starred in three more films of the franchise with Jason Statham before starring in the 2019 spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw.
Let me tell you that when the Fast & Furious Movies franchise launched, Diesel and Walker acted as lead actors as Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner respectively. Johnson was not included in the film from The Fast and the Furious in 2001 to ‘Fast & Furious’ in 2009. The Rock entered the fifth film of the series Fast Five as an artist. But his acting like Maan revived the franchise.
Luke Hobbs was initially a diplomatic security service (DSS) agent and skilled bounty hunter. He started as the opposition (enemy) of Dom, Brian, and his team until all the parties realized that they had done a better job together.
Johnson was a belt champion in the WWE before entering the film Fast Five. Before this, he has done his magic in films like The Scorpion King, Walking Tall, Gridiron Gang, and The Game Plan.
At the end of Fast & Furious 4, Brian resigns from the FBI and helps Dom to be freed from the prison bus. Director Justin Lynn was now looking for a character who could stand up to a drug mafia-like Hernan Reyes. That’s why Hobbs was conceived differently.
It was originally conceived for the Hobbs to be a rigid old man. But Diesel and Lynn later decided to redesign Hobbs’ character due to Jack Richer and Johnson’s growing history with Universal Pictures.
Johnson Completely Changed What Fast and Furious Is?
In Fast Five, developers added traditional street racing to the theme, say goodbye, heist action, and car culture. Hence it is known as a transitional film in the Fast & Furious franchise.
Dwayne Johnson’s presence as Hobbs also added a government element, acting as a threat to Dom’s crew. With the inclusion of Hobbs and his team, the stakes became much higher.
Johnson’s stunt-heavy work from Pennant also helped replace the Fast and Furious franchise. It also inspired unrealistic action sequences, car chases, and risky rescue.
How The Rock Made Fast & Furious Better?
Fast Five was widely praised by critics and was the best-rated film. Much of the positivity stemmed from Johnson’s acting as Hobbs, as there was a general belief that The Rock revived the Fast and Furious series by adding a new direction. Luke Hobbs started as an antagonist, but developed into the crew’s most loyal ally.
Based on the way the Fast and Furious series has dominated the box office in recent years, there is no question as to why Universal decided to give Johnson and his character a spinoff. However, it is still unclear whether Hobbs will end with The Untold tenth film of The Fast Saga.
