Hashim Amla’s return to South Africa’s domestic cricket difficult

South Africa cricketer Hashim Amla is not going to return to domestic cricket in South Africa, it was introduced on Tuesday (September 14). The former South Africa cricketer conveyed his choice to the Western Province Cricket Association.

Hashim Amla, 38, was initially named within the 16-member Western Province squad that’ll play within the first division of the brand new South Africa domestic structure.

According to Western Province Cricket Association(WPCA) CEO –

“It’s obviously hugely disappointing that Hashim will not be donning the Six-Gun Grill WP colors this season, he would have been a huge asset to the team on and off the field, especially working with the group of talented young batsmen we have at our disposal,” Michael Canterbury, WPCA CEO, mentioned.

“I want to thank Hashim and his representatives for the open interaction over these past couple of weeks. We all know Hashim is one of our greatest ever players in South Africa and we would have loved nothing more than to see him representing WP, but we fully understand his reasoning and wish him luck with whatever comes next for him and his family.”

“I want to thank Western Province for their open communication throughout the entire contracting process. I have made this decision based on where I am currently in my career and with a view to my future endeavors. I want to wish the squad all the best for the coming season,” Amla mentioned.

Despite retiring from worldwide cricket in 2019, Amla has remained active within the first-class circuit, having simply loved a productive outing for Surrey within the County Championship.

Amla’s return may prove to be a second setback for the Western Province. Along with Africa cricketer, Vernon Philander has been selected as specialist bowling consultant of Pakistan team for T20 World Cup. Now it remains to be seen whether Vernon Philander joins the team after his coaching stint.
